Le Train Theatre in Portes-les-Valence, south-east France is one of a number of municipal theatres in the Rhone-Alpes region, and the latest performance venue in France to take delivery of Robe’s DL series of LED moving lights.
Eight new DL4S Profiles were delivered via specialist technical sales and rental company Scenetec, based just outside Lyon, and will be working in the venue’s 450 seat main auditorium, which hosts a lively and eclectic mix of experimental theatre, dance and music. Well known as a ‘hot-bed’ of creativity, Le Train Theatre is also involved in educational initiatives, community outreach projects and other schemes to help make the arts accessible, engaging and fun to a wide audience.
The varied programme of shows and events staged there was one of the reasons they were keen to upgrade to new and reliable moving lights – they needed variety and a fixture that was robust and could be worked hard.
“A bright, profile fixture with good framing shutters” was at the top of the agenda explained Bastien Chaumet, sales manager at Scenetec, who put the spec together after taking a brief from the theatre’s technical team. “I immediately thought of Robe. The DL series is built for theatre, and there is no other comparable product on the market right now,” he continued.
Bastien arranged a demonstration with Le Train’s technical director Françoise Christophe and Christophe Revol, head of lighting, which was a great success. They loved the DL4S and immediately went ahead and confirmed the order.
Now the fixtures are installed and in use, they appreciate the power, the smooth colour mixing and dimming, the quiet running of the fixtures and the superior framing shutter module.
The increased brightness gives them around 30% more ‘fire-power’ than the previous generation of lights – with a dramatic reduction in power consumption due to the LED lightsource.
The DL4Ss, along with the other lights in the theatre, are controlled via a grandMA2 console.
